The Dreamliner carrying the body touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at around 5:10am, where President Uhuru Kenyatta received retired President Mwai Kibaki, family and friends of Mama Lucy who had accompanied the former First Lady to London, where she died last Tuesday.
Also present at the Airport was First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto among other government officials.
The casket, which was draped in the Kenyan flag, was lowered from the plane at about 6.10am where it was then carried by pallbearers selected from the military.
Catholic Reverend Father Dominic Wamugunda and the State House choir led a brief prayer service after which the body was taken to the Lee Funeral Home as arrangements for a State funeral got underway.
Mama Lucy passed on at Bupa Cromwell Hospital where she had been taken for specialised treatment after being unwell for a while.
Reports indicate that Mama Lucy will be laid to rest on Saturday in Othaya, Nyeri County, with the requiem mass being held at Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi on Wednesday.
On Friday, Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe announced that three days of national mourning in honour of the late First Lady would be marked beginning Sunday.
Kiraithe also indicated that the public would have an opportunity to sign condolence books which have been placed at various locations - Harambee House, Parliament, KICC, Holy Family Basilica, Consolata Shrine Westlands and all the 47 county headquarters.
